Judge Ross R. Robinson of the Northern District of Iowa has issued a ruling in a case involving the judge and a bailiff accused of sexually assaulting a former client.
The ruling in the case of William L. Lewis and Richard A. Krasny is a significant victory for a woman who says she was raped by Lewis while in a motel room in 2012.
A jury in April awarded Lewis $3.2 million in a civil suit against the woman, who did not seek any criminal charges against Lewis.
The judge ruled the jury verdict against Lewis should be upheld on the grounds that the statute of limitations for rape was not fully exhausted.
Lewis, who has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, has maintained his innocence.
