Judge Monicas suspension from Florida Supreme court has caused to lose her faith in the judiciary, according to her lawyer.
On Wednesday, the Florida Judicial System Board of Governors announced Gordo would be suspended from the state Supreme Court, the top court of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Gordo is the only sitting Florida judge to have been suspended from a state court, meaning she cannot preside over criminal cases or receive a jury trial.
Gorda was the first woman to be appointed to the Florida Court of Appeals and has held that seat for nearly 20 years.
She said she was disappointed by the board’s decision.
“I am very disappointed in the decision.
I think that it will have an adverse effect on the integrity of the judiciary,” Gordo said.
The Florida Supreme Courts first hearing on Gordo is scheduled for May 18.
She is also a member of the Florida Bar and has served as a judge in the Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
Gordon is a Democrat who serves on the boards of the American Bar Association and the American Medical Association.
